ANDY GRAYDON

Free Verse

Sculptural video installation
Dimensions variable
2008

A casual arrangement free-standing fluorescent tubes leans in a corner of the gallery. The tubes are not plugged in, not electrified, and so do not emit any light themselves. Instead, a video projector casts stripes of solid and flickering light onto their surfaces, bringing them to life as images of themselves, or something caught between image and sculpture. With allusions to minimalist light art practice, Free Verse plays with reversals of object and image in ways that are both sculpturally provocative and playfully absurdist.

First presentated at LMAKprojects, New York
