ANDY GRAYDON

Untitled
(weathering steel)

2-channel sound installation
Dimensions variable
2008

This sound piece was created from field recordings taken at the Storm King Art Center in New York State, recorded from the perspectives of a series of permanent outdoor sculptures, including works by Mark DiSuvero, Andy Goldsworthy, and Richard Serra. The piece engages with minimalist form and its relation to time, and temporal perception. Sound is used as a sculptural material, creating a mobile-like structure in which “solid” forms of sound, made through processes of reduction and extension of the sound’s shapes, are made active through “twists” or processes of movement through time.

First presented in the exhibition “Unmonumental”, The New Museum, New York, 2008.
