Free Verse is a work for burnt-out fluorescent tubes and video projection. Graydon has collected dead tubes from his studio buildings in New York, Berlin, and Minneapolis. Sometimes they simply die, sometimes they are displaced by newer technologies like LED fixtures, and sometimes history abandons them, as with the tubes left behind in Graydon’s studio in former East Berlin. The tubes are given a new spectral life by projecting flickering white light back upon them.
